Flamboyant, warm and softer than zephyr’s wing!

I usually like to attach fringe to my shawls but I decorated this one with a lace border of chain stitches.

  Dimensions

Upper edge - 162cm long
Height - 95cm
Circle motif diameter - 12,5cm
Border - 4cm wide

Materials

- 250gr of yarn 15% mohair and 85% acrylic - 160gr in dark red (for hook No. 3-4) and 90gr of melange yarn (shades from beige to pink) (for hook No. 2.5)

- Hook No. 3.5

The main pattern from dark red yarn was done in shell stitches according to Diagram 1 (schema 1), but working 5dc and ch1 for each shell (instead of 4dc and ch2 as the diagram shows). Circle motifs were made following Diagram 2 (schema 2).

Abbreviations

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
rnd - round

Instructions

According to Diagram 1, and using dark red yarn, start with 24 rows of foundation.
Crochet along the sides of the shawl by working arches of ch5, and on the upper edge repeat *5dc, ch1* to the end. Shells should be placed in each space between 2 shells of previous row.

Make 13 round motifs following Diagram 2 and using melange yarn. In the last row of every motif attach each one to the sides of the shawl and one to another, according to the diagram.

Continue in dark red again as Diagram 1 shows, for 5 more rows. After that crochet around the whole piece with melange yarn, like this:

Rnd 1 - *ch5, 1sc in space between 2 shells, ch5, 1sc between 2nd and 3rd dc of the shell*. Repeat from * to *.
Rnd 2 - 2 arches of ch5 above each arch of the previous rnd: *ch5, 1sc in arch, ch5, 1sc in the same arch*. Repeat from * to *.
Rnds 3 and 4 - work arches of ch6 above each arch of previous rnd : *ch6, 1sc in arch*. Repeat from * to *. Break yarn.

Weave in ends.

Press the shawl over a wet cloth.
