Wrist Bracelet
Every seamstress needs a pincushion...
Variation 1 with a rubber band bracelet |
Variation 2 with a strap |
Well,
this ingenious invention (which, by the way, isn't mine) makes sewing
much easier even for the most forgetful and messiest tailors :)
Whatever you do with your needles and pins, the pincushion-bracelet will always be with you and speed up the work. You won't get nervous or waste precious time looking for pins and digging in your clutter, 'cause we all know that work automatically brings mess too.
Materials
- Leftover yarn or thread for hook no. 2.5
- Hook no. 2.5
- Some leftover yarn cut into small pieces for stuffing the pincushion
- One button or 2 rubber bands - depending on the variation of the pincushion you choose, for the strap
Instructions
Ch 4, close into a circle and work in spiral rounds (without finishing each rnd with a slip stitch), and you will have a nice, neat work.
Rnd 1 - ch1 (instead of the 1st sc), 7sc in the rnd = 8 stitches.
Rnd 2 - ch1, 1sc in the first st, *2sc in next stitch (st)*; repeat from * to * 7 more times = 16sts
Rnd 3 - ch1, 1sc, 2sc in next st, *2sc, 2sc in next st*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 24sts.
Rnd 4 - ch1, 2sc, 2sc in next st, *3sc, 2sc in next st*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 32sts.
Rnd 5 - ch1, 3sc, 2sc in next st, *4sc, 2sc in next st*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 40sts.
Rnd 6 - ch1, 4sc, 2sc in next st, *5sc, 2sc in next st*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 48sts.
From rnd 7 to rnd 15 work sc without increasing.
From rnd 16 work decreases:
Rnd 16 - ch1, 4sc, 2sc together, *5sc, 2sc together*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 40sts.
Rnd 17 - ch1, 3sc, 2sc together, *4sc, 2sc together*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 32sts.
Rnd 18 - ch1, 2sc, 2sc together, *3sc, 2sc together*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 24sts.
Rnd 19 - ch1, 1sc, 2sc together, *2sc, 2sc together*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 16sts.
Rnd 20 - ch1, 2sc together, *1sc, 2sc together*. Repeat from * to * 7 times = 8sts.
Rnd 21 - 2sc together, repeat from * to * till the end of rnd = 4sts. Insert the hook through 2 opposite sts, cut thread, pull again, and finish crocheting. Weave in end.
The blue and white pin bracelet fastens with a button, and the width can be adjusted by pulling the button through one of the several holes on the strap. You can make the strap by working dc in desirable length, and the width of 6dc. Sew the finished strap onto the bottom of the pincushion using needle and thread/yarn.
I only made one button hole by mistake, but now I know that there should be 2 or 3. On second thought, the button can be pulled between 2 dc.
To crochet the bracelet just pull the thread under the 2 rubber bands and make sc stitches as you usually do, but each time around the bands. The density of stitches should be larger than the circumference of the unstretched rubber band. In other words, work as many sc as you can fit in the rubber band. In rnd 2 add 1sc after every 2 sts, and do the same in the other 3 rnds so that the bracelet has enough volume to spread together with the rubber bands. Sew the finished bracelet to the bottom of the pincushion.
Finally, if
you are right-handed, wear your Pin Bracelet on your left wrist and
vice versa - left-handed sewers should wear it on their right wrist.
